Farming’s value to society

The New Year is a great time to reflect on the changes we want or need to make; to set new goals and resolutions – and a good opportunity to sign up to Open Farm Sunday. At this year’s Oxford Farming Conference a key part of the discussions were the wider contributions farming makes to society and the importance of engaging the public. Open Farm Sunday and Let Nature Feed Your Senses were one of the key recommendations made in the conference report since they provide great opportunities for farmers to actively engage with the public, either through opening up or helping others host their events. So, please, take up the challenge and register your farm to open up on the 9th June at www.farmsunday.org.

Welcome to the first EBrief of the New Year. We’ve got an exciting schedule of events lined up for this year, looking at a range of Integrated Farm Management issues such as precision farming, nutrient management planning, biobeds and water management. They will be free to attend, so keep an eye on our events page for the dates when they’re announced.

Annual Review

You can read all about LEAF’s highlights and successes throughout 2012 in our new annual review! With news from our Demonstration Farmers, LEAF Marque growers, articles from LEAF President, Baroness Hazel Byford, and our Chairman, Stephen Fell, as well as updates on all our activities and campaigns, it provides both an insight into our achievements through 2012 and our plans for the future.

We have achieved a lot this year, but we’ve not stopped there with this year’s review, you can also read our plans for next year and beyond. Download ‘LEAF in 2012‘ from our website here, where you will also find our ’21 Years of Linking Environment And Farming: Past reflections, future directions‘ book.
