Welcome to the very first edition of AnimalhealthEurope News!

As you may have heard, this year we celebrated 30 years of representing the animal health industry in Europe and at our gala dinner to celebrate this milestone we launched our new name: AnimalhealthEurope

As we toasted Europe’s great progress in managing and preventing animal disease, and ensuring a safe and sustainable food supply, we launched our new strategy promoting more integrated One Health approaches to today’s health challenges. Fertilizers Europe’s reaction to the vote of the European Parliament on the fertilizer Regulation

European Parliament goes down the wrong path
On 24 October 2017, the European Parliament adopted the compromise put forward by the S&D and ALDE groups, which sets an impossible reduction plan for cadmium in phosphorus fertilizers.

The biobed – a Swedish farmer’s invention used across the world

The biobed is an invention by Swedish farmer Göran Ohlsson to minimise surface water pollution and point-source pollution in areas where spraying equipment is filled or cleaned. It is a simple, efficient and cost-effective concept, based on the principle of pesticide biodegradation.
In 1992, Swedish farmer Göran Ohlsson had the idea of building a biobed. The reason was his concern and efforts to reduce point-source pollution originating from filling and cleaning of spraying equipment. L’agriculture durable made in France interpelle!

Thanks to the excellent organisation of FARRE, EISA’s national member in France, participants are able to look back to a great Farm Visit 2017. Exchange of thoughts and knowledge on sustainable agriculture, on Champagne production and the future of farming in an intensively used agricultural area were some of the key issues addressed. LEAF announce education and public engagement appointment

LEAF announces the appointment of Carl Edwards as its new Director, Education and Public Engagement.  Carl will plan, lead and execute LEAF’s ambitious education and public engagement strategy that will drive forward public understanding and demand for more sustainable food and farming and enable schools to enrich their curriculum. LAUNCH OF Water2REturn PROJECT

Brussels, 28th July 2017

In July, the consortium Water2REturn coordinated by BIOAZUL launched a new project that will demonstrate the technological and economic viability of recovering and recycling nutrients from slaughterhouse residues, transforming them in to high value products with a wide range of agricultural applications.

In an increasingly robust EU circular economy, nutrients and bio-stimulants coming from livestock represent a significant added value; W2R is an initiative which aims to promote the use of nitrate and phosphate compounds recovered from the livestock value chain as organic fertiliser. Read more:

FEFAC Publishes Annual Report 2016-2017

FEFAC, representing the EU compound feed and premix industry, has published its Annual Report 2016-2017. The 2016-2017 period marks the last year of the presidency of Ruud Tijssens, who in the foreword describes his term as the point where the European feed industry manifested itself as part of the solution to tackle societal challenges with the publication of the 2030 Feed Industry Vision. In a second foreword, newly elected FEFAC President Nick Major places a focus on ensuring viable farm incomes through the Common Agricultural Policy as a precondition to deliver on the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
